Preschool news
We are looking forward to celebrating Reconciliation Week and inviting the students to join in activities that encourage cultural competence through being, belonging and becoming. Reconciliation Australia’s theme for 2021, More than a word. Reconciliation takes action, urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
We would like to encourage our wonderful St Anthony’s community to ‘take action’ by donating to the World Vision Early Childhood Projects in Indigenous Communities. Your contributions will help support local indigenous playgroups with much needed funds to buy resources and support professional learning for local staff. Please follow this link to donate; https://www.worldvision.com.au/global-issues/work-we-do/supporting-indigenous-australia
To show our support next Thursday (3rd of June) the students are encouraged to wear mufti clothes (regular clothes, including enclosed shoes) in colours of the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or Australian flag.
We will be collecting donations on this day to support World Vision.
Thanks
A huge thanks to members of our great parent community – Erin, Amie, Felicity and David for supporting us at our recent Open Days. We really appreciate you giving up your time to come along and help to promote our ELC and to showcase the strong connections we have with our current families. Our Open Days were a great success and we enjoyed showing families our wonderful facilities and talking about our engaging Preschool program. A huge thanks also to our wonderful staff who volunteered their time to stay after hours and help with tours.
Healthy Harold
The Preschoolers enjoyed a visit from Healthy Harold this week. Many parents reminisced about Healthy Harold visiting their school as young children. This lovable, caring and loyal friend and passionate advocate for the health and safety of all Aussie children and their families is an Australian icon. Alongside Life Education, Healthy Harold has been visiting schools for 40 years.
Foyer
Aligned with COVID restrictions we are adhering to social distancing in our foyer. A reminder that only 4 families are to congregate in our ELC foyer in the morning and afternoon. Please do not come into the foyer if there are already 4 adults in this space. Thank you for your cooperation.
Enrolment period closes tonight, 28 May
We would love it if you could please send in your favourite recipe from home. We enjoy being able to make these important connections between home and school and all contributions are welcome - even if your child is not booked into the ASC program.

We are a Cancer Council SunSmart Preschool
End of May is Hats Off DayIt is that time of the year again when we start to witness UV levels dropping off in Canberra to levels that are considered low (under 3) for part, if not most of the day. It is also that time of the year when confusion sets in around sun protection as we move toward the winter months. |
So, in keeping with the End of May is Hats Off Day mantra, children and educators in Canberra can give hat wearing and sunscreen application a rest and enjoy some winter sun for Vitamin D. The End of May is Hats Off Day in the ACT, for a few months anyway because the Beginning of August is Hats On Again For All Of Us as UV levels start to rise again in Canberra warranting sensible sun protection behaviour. Read more about UV exposure and the healthy balance for Vitamin D benefits here. |
