Reporting on Children’s Learning
Mid semester learning summaries will be sent home next week with your child- Bilbies on Wednesday and Koalas and Possums on Friday. If your child is absent, they will be posted.
Early next term, your child’s portfolio will be sent home in preparation for parent teacher meetings. We will be holding Parent Teacher Interviews in week 3 and 4 of Term 3 - and will have the booking schedule out to you early next term. It would be great to catch up with all of you at parent teacher interviews - these are a really great opportunity to talk together about your child’s learning and growth at Preschool, and to work together with you in setting some learning goals for your child for the second part of the year.
Community
Over the last term all of the ELC children have spent some time looking at the story of when Jesus visited Mary and Martha at their home in Bethany. As part of learning about this story the students have had the chance to learn a little bit about communities in the time Jesus was alive. We have looked at the kinds of houses people lived in and the chores that had to be done at home to get meals ready and care for the family. We also looked at the sort of jobs people living in the time of Christ would have had.
As part of this all of the classes have also had time to explore and learn about their own community. We have enjoyed walks to the local shops, and creating some maps to show what kinds of things are found at the shops in our community. Thank you to some of our mums and dads who have come in to share with us the jobs they do in the community - we were so fortunate to be visited by Police Officer Robyn, and to have a turn sitting in the police car. We also learnt how to stay safe around fires with Firefighter Brendan and even got a visit from the Fire Truck.
I am really grateful for the beautiful community we have here at St Anthony’s ELC. It is a privilege to work with each of our students and their families. It is also fantastic to see the children in action as members of our preschool community and contributing to our community in different ways - helping set up the new fence for the bunny hutch, preparing fruit for fruit break each day, helping to take the wagon with class supplies down to the pineforest, or helping to clean up around the playground at the end of the day.
ELC Grandfriends Days will be held on Tuesday 2nd of July for the Bilbies class and Friday 5th July for Possums and Bilbies classes.
We understand that not all Grandparents are able to attend these events – so yourself or others are welcome to come along. All children will be involved in the activities for the day.
ELC children are welcome to go with Grandparents to the school for the picnic on Friday but any visitors wishing to take children to the school with them must have permission to sign students out of preschool and have ID with them. Students will also need to be brought back to the ELC and signed back in following the picnic, as we will need all our students for their part in the Performance being held in the school hall!
Visitors on Grandfriends day may also wish to take students home with them after the Grand friends Day performance. Please email the ELC office if your child will be leaving the ELC with their Grandparent on Friday afternoon. Grandparents will need to come down to the ELC following the performance in the hall, to sign out ELC students. They must have permission to sign out students and also have their ID with them.
We ask you to please take the time to check the uniforms you have at home. Lots of students have missing items of uniform and majority of these are labeled. Often the children accidently put thier items away in the wrong bag or locker, and these things don't seem to be making their way back to the classroom. Thank you in advance for doing your bit to help.
Please also take a moment to make sure all of you child's things are labeled. This helps to return any items that are misplaced.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Lilly R, Lucas, Chloe, Mackenzie W, Angus and Lina who have celebrated a birthday recently! We hope you had the best day!
