Reporting on Children’s Learning

Mid semester learning summaries will be sent home next week with your child- Bilbies on Wednesday and Koalas and Possums on Friday. If your child is absent, they will be posted.

Early next term, your child’s portfolio will be sent home in preparation for parent teacher meetings. We will be holding Parent Teacher Interviews in week 3 and 4 of Term 3 - and will have the booking schedule out to you early next term. It would be great to catch up with all of you at parent teacher interviews - these are a really great opportunity to talk together about your child’s learning and growth at Preschool, and to work together with you in setting some learning goals for your child for the second part of the year.

Community

Over the last term all of the ELC children have spent some time looking at the story of when Jesus visited Mary and Martha at their home in Bethany. As part of learning about this story the students have had the chance to learn a little bit about communities in the time Jesus was alive. We have looked at the kinds of houses people lived in and the chores that had to be done at home to get meals ready and care for the family. We also looked at the sort of jobs people living in the time of Christ would have had.

As part of this all of the classes have also had time to explore and learn about their own community. We have enjoyed walks to the local shops, and creating some maps to show what kinds of things are found at the shops in our community. Thank you to some of our mums and dads who have come in to share with us the jobs they do in the community - we were so fortunate to be visited by Police Officer Robyn, and to have a turn sitting in the police car. We also learnt how to stay safe around fires with Firefighter Brendan and even got a visit from the Fire Truck.

I am really grateful for the beautiful community we have here at St Anthony’s ELC. It is a privilege to work with each of our students and their families. It is also fantastic to see the children in action as members of our preschool community and contributing to our community in different ways - helping set up the new fence for the bunny hutch, preparing fruit for fruit break each day, helping to take the wagon with class supplies down to the pineforest, or helping to clean up around the playground at the end of the day.
