It has been wonderful to welcome back all our students this week. We have missed their smiling faces and it has been a joy to watch them reconnect with their friends. Thank you parents and carers for your ongoing patience as we navigate the ever-changing road map of Covid restrictions. We appreciate you not entering the Preschool building unless you are dropping off or picking up from Before or After School Care. Please use the doorbell to alert the staff that you are in the foyer.
A reminder that the students need to wear hats and apply sunscreen before they arrive. This will be reapplied throughout the day. It is also useful to include a spare set of clothes in your child’s school bag.
Staffing changes
We congratulate Miss Janice for winning a position at St Anthony’s OOSCA as Assistant Director. We will miss her warmth, organisation and love for the students at the ELC and hope that she will pop back down to see us regularly.
We continue to keep our beloved Miss Winnie in our prayers as she continues her treatment. The staff and students dearly miss her and hope she is resting comfortably at home.
Next week Miss Imogen and Miss Chi will join us for their practicum. Miss Imogen is currently working in ASC and in the Possums class. Both ladies are completing Early Childhood studies and will join us across the week in all classes. We warmly welcome them and look forward to their energy and enthusiasm.
Miss Kate will work with us on Thursday and Fridays for the remainder of the year. Kate has previously worked in the ELC and has been pleased to return. Kate is a caring and calm educator, and we are blessed to have her as part of our great team.
We are also excited to announce that Miss Olivia and her husband Matt will be welcoming their second child in January. Olivia will be taking 12 months off to spend with both her girls and return in 2023.
New equipment
The students have enjoyed participating in a wide range of gross motor and fine motor activities this week. Motor skills are used everyday throughout our lives. They help us move and do everything from lifting heavy items to typing on a keyboard. Motor skills and motor control begin developing after birth, and will progress as children grow. Having good motor control also helps children explore the world around them, which can help with many other areas of development.
In our Preschool programs we aim to build confidence and independence, which also promotes executive function skills. These skills are important to combine motor, sensory, communication, and cognitive skills that children have developed. Beginning at a very young age, we apply this combination of skills to daily activities and situations, such as playing, learning, and socialising. Overall, they help us accomplish important things and reach new goals.
Following an interest in building we purchased large interlocking blocks for use in the playground. This has challenged some children’s spatial awareness as well as encouraging their imagination when building their amazing creations.
Today Australia celebrates and thanks the teaching profession on World Teachers’ Day.
Teachers (along with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families, and communities.
We'd like to thank our teachers and educators and if you'd like to thank them too you can find some ideas here.
From next week we will have 2 students joining us as part of their study towards their qualifications in Early Childhood. We are excited to have them on board and we look forward to sharing our wonderful Preschool with them. Please let us know if you have any questions about their work experience throughout November.
Below is a little introduction from both students. Imogen is a familiar face as she already works with us at the centre. Chi is new to our Preschool and we look forward to getting to know her.
In case you missed this via SZapp last week, here is a great article shared with us from Mercedes, the School Counsellor.
