Sustainability
In December 2019, the ACT Government indicated its intention to phase out certain single-use plastics in the ACT.
From 1 July 2021, the following three items will be prohibited from sale, supply or distribution in the ACT:
1. Single-use plastic cutlery (including bioplastic and PLA - polylactic acids)
2. Single-use plastic drink stirrers (including bioplastic and PLA - polylactic acids)
3. Expanded polystyrene takeaway food and beverage containers.
At our ELC we will be doing our part to support this fabulous initiative by holding a “NO PLASTICS” day every Wednesday, starting next week. We would like to encourage families to not send any plastic items to school. This includes plastic wrapped food items, yogurts etc. Instead your child can bring in food that has been decanted into smaller reusable containers or just bring in ‘nude food’. If your child does have plastic wrapping on this day we will send it home in your child’s lunchbox.
We are proud to say that this year we have established ‘no food waste’ in the ELC by distributing all our food scraps to our chickens, worms and compost bins.

Music and Dance class
Next term all classes will welcome Ginny from 'Lucy Sparkles and friends' for a music or dance lesson. This will be a 30 minute lesson delivered with each class. The Bilbies and Koalas enjoyed a trial lesson this term and are really looking forward to Ginny returning. This weekly incursion will be in lieu of a Term 2 excursion and the cost will be approx $34 per child for the term. We will notify you when this is to be added to your account. This is a great chance for us to work with an external company to provide your child the opportunity of dance and music lesson to be delivered in a dynamic and fresh way.
Photos
Our wonderful photographer Paul from https://smashingpanda.com.au will visit us next week to take our Preschool photos. In addition to a class photo Paul will take a few photos of each child and upload these during the holidays. Early Term 2 each family will be given a link to access their child’s photos and the opportunity to purchase them. The children should come dressed in their school uniform with neat and tidy hair. The Bilbies & Koalas photos will be taken on the 31st of March and the Possums on the 1st of April. If you have contacted Paul regarding sibling photos we will arrange for these to be taken in the Preschool.
