Mental Health and Wellbeing for children
Bubbles are whimsical, effervescent, playful, and nostalgic and the act of blowing bubbles helps to improve your mental health. It calms your body and mind and allows you to take in more oxygen through deep, rhymical breaths. This simple act is a great way for kids to relieve anxiety and stress. Last week we were reminded of the importance of looking after our mental health and enjoyed a fun ‘bubble day’.
Mental health is the way children think or feel about themselves and the world around them. It’s related to how children cope with life’s challenges and stresses.
Children with good mental health:
- feel happy and positive about themselves
- enjoy life
- learn well
- have healthy relationships with family and friends
- can manage sad, worrying or angry feelings
- can bounce back from tough times.
Your child needs good mental health to develop in a healthy way socially, emotionally, mentally and physically. Good mental health in childhood also provides the foundation for better mental health and wellbeing later in life. There are many great, evidence-based resources available if you would like more information about mental health and if you have any concerns or worries visiting your own GP is always a good place to start.
The Zoo
A huge thanks to staff and parents who facilitated great Zoo excursions. The students were very excited to go and from all accounts the bus ride was also a highlight. The students were lucky enough to get ‘up close’ to some of the animals on their guided tour and concluded the day with a picnic lunch and play at the park.
Are you in Canberra over the Christmas holidays? Would you like to help look after our chooks? If yes, please email elc.stanthonys@cg.catholic.edu.au the dates you can visit the chickens and we will add you to our roster. All volunteers will be given information and support to confidently look after the animals. You are also welcome to any produce from our veggie patches that will be available over the holidays.
We look forward to hearing from you.

Seeking Kitchen Utensil Donations,
Our out of school care and Preschool programs would love any donations of unused kitchen items you have at home. We are thinking small plastic containers, funnels, seives, mixing spoons, spatulas, pots or pans etc. These items will be used to further extend our outdoor kitchen, sandpit, waterplay and anywhere else the children let their imagination take them!
Thank you in advance!
