We invite all of our children to join in on Tuesday 15th June and help raise funds to support the St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal. We are asking children to come dressed in their pyjamas tomorrow and to bring in a gold coin, or larger if possible, donation to support the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. We also have a QKR! donation option available for those that would prefer to donate online.
One of the best ways to tune into the natural world is by spending time outdoors sitting in quiet awareness or by focusing in on a natural object, perhaps "seeing" it and its remarkable details for the first time.
A Sit Spot is a technique used at many forest and nature schools that allows a child to choose a place outdoors that appeals to them. They will visit that spot repeatedly to observe the natural world. It’s important that the Sit Spot is one chosen by the child and where they feel comfortable. As the child visits the same place many times, they eventually develop a relationship with nature. They notice the changes in the surroundings in all types of weather, times of day, different seasons. The Sit Spot is an excellent place for reading, nature journaling, nature sketching or just contemplation.
This year’s theme “Be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10 has been developed through this quiet contemplation and connection with nature. It is here that the children are encouraged to spend time in prayer and stillness.
Landcare Grant
We are very excited to have received a Landcare Grant to develop a native garden and bee hotel at our Preschool. Over the next few months, we will design our garden space with the students, staff and community. If you are a keen gardener and would like to help with this project, please let us know. A huge thanks to Woolworths and Landcare for this generous grant! We are excited to expand our beautiful Preschool outdoor space.
Pyjama Day
Pyjama Day is tomorrow, Tuesday 15th June, for our Bilbies and Koalas. We are asking children to come dressed in their pyjamas and to bring in a gold coin, or a larger donation if possible, to support the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. We will also have a QKR! donation option available for those that would prefer to donate online.
We are also collecting items for the Vinnies Winter Appeal. We have a bucket in our foyer. Please bring in new or used (but in reasonably good condition) warm winter items. St Vincent de Paul have indicated that they need the following items:
· Blankets
· Jackets
· Jumpers
· Warm gloves and socks
· Sleeping bags
· Beanies
Family helpers
Thank you to parents and grandparents who have joined the Possums class recently to talk to the students about what their jobs are in the community. It has been great to welcome you to the ELC! If you have a particular interest and/or hobby that you would like to share in your child’s class, please contact us. Some ideas include knitting, gardening, sport, music etc. We look forward to hearing from you.
Most of us are able to rug up during Winter, seeking shelter from the harsh Canberra cold in our homes with heating, blankets, coats and other items to keep us warm. However, this is not the case for all Canberrans, the rate of homelessness and living below the poverty line continues to grow. With this in mind, we will again be supporting St Vincent de Paul through their Winter Appeal. The Vinnies Winter Appeal provides emergency relief to people at risk and experiencing homelessness. Donations of warm clothing and blankets as well as financial contributions are a vital source of support for St Vincent de Paul and all of the wonderful work they do. WINTER DONATIONS:
PRAYERS: We also keep in our thoughts and prayers the Kensey family. Debbie Kensey has worked with St Anthony’s through our Vinnies Winter and Christmas Appeals for many years and recently passed away suddenly. Many of our primary school students and families would know Debbie as she would come to an assembly or mass to thank the St Anthony’s community for their donations. It was also often her car that we loaded up with all of our donated items. Debbie will be sorely missed. Your donations and support will help to ensure that Canberra families at risk of homelessness get the financial and emotional support they need to keep themselves and their children safe. |
Holiday Care Program - Book Now
As you would all be aware, the situation surrounding the global pandemic continues to affect us in Australia and it is an ever changing situation. We ask that you all please ensure you follow and adhere to all of the latest ACT, or relevant states, health advice. This is particularly important as people begin to travel more, have family or friends visit the ACT and with the general population possibly travelling over the school holiday break.
This includes making sure we continue to adhere to the restrictions in place around social distancing and staying home (and getting tested) if you are unwell.
Thank you for following our 4 adult restrictions in our foyer. We understand and appreciate that it is cold and waiting outside isn't ideal however, we appreciate your ongoing support.
Due to licensing and regulations, we are unable to open the Preschool door before 9am and families must only enter the Preschool corridor if their child is booked into the BSC/ASC program or a staff member invites you in. It is important that each individual family enters the code so we can ensure correct drop off and pick up processes. If you do not have the code you will only be invited in accompanied by a staff member.
