Preschool news
NAIDOC Week celebrations were held across Australia to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. During the week our Preschoolers participated in a range of activities to support our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and to build knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture. It was a great week of playing and joining as one people where we took the time to pay our respects to the land and to the Aboriginal people who came before us to look after it.
This week we will provide information to families via sZapp about our Term 4 Holiday Care program.
The last day of Preschool for 2020 is the 18th of December. We will open for 2 days during the following week, the 21st and 22nd of December for Holiday Care. Our opening times will be 8.00 – 5.30pm.
In January we will reopen on the following days, 21st & 22nd, 25th and 27th. Our current students may prefer to book into the OOSCA (Primary School Holiday Program) and access this program with their siblings. Information regarding this program will be available via the school website and sZapp.
AFTER SCHOOL CARE – a reminder to please pick your child up before 6pm. Our ASC staff are required to complete cleaning and programming tasks to be ready for the next day. If you arrive after 6pm you may be charged an additional fee.
Chickens
Our chickens have moved into their new hen house and are settling in well. Raising chickens is a great way to teach our children about where food comes from, as well as encouraging responsibility and nurturing skills. The students are growing in confidence when handling the chickens and help with the daily tasks associated with caring for animals.
The children are reminded that the chickens are God’s creatures and need our love, care, and attention.
We are teaching the children to;
- Sit down and cradle the chickens and not to place the chickens near their face
- Wash their hands thoroughly after handling the chickens
- Help to keep the chicken coop clean
- Replenish the food and water when required
Are you in Canberra over the Christmas holidays? Would you like to help look after our chooks? If yes, please email elc.stanthonys@cg.catholic.edu.au the dates you can visit the chickens and we will add you to our roster. All volunteers will be given information and support to confidently look after the animals. You are also welcome to any produce from our veggie patches that will be available over the holidays.
We look forward to hearing from you.
We are still collecting donations of any unused kitchen items please
Our out of school care and Preschool programs would love any donations of unused kitchen items you have at home. We are thinking small plastic containers, funnels, seives, mixing spoons, spatulas, pots or pans etc. These items will be used to further extend our outdoor kitchen, sandpit, waterplay and anywhere else the children let their imagination take them!
Thank you in advance!
