Along with so many around the world, we pray for the repose of the soul of Queen Elizabeth II at this time of her death.
She visited Canberra, the Nation’s Capital, so many times over her incredible 70 year Reign.
So many use words such as duty, service, wisdom, steadfast, to describe her time as Australia’s Head of State.
Two praiseworthy expressions come to my heart.
Firstly, she was a woman of deep Christian Faith. This animated her great dutiful service to us all, her long marriage and love of her family.
Secondly, she was a kind of Mother figure to all Australians in a “change of era”, as Pope Francis expresses our time.
May she rest in Peace!
May our merciful Lord Jesus, who she trusted so much in life, now lead her to life eternal.
I kindly ask you to pray for the soul of Queen Elizabeth II, her family, and for peace in our world in your Masses and prayers. We also pray for King Charles Ill.
Yours sincerely in Christ,
Archbishop Christopher Prowse
Welcome to our final week of Term 3.
Thank you to our wonderful STA staff, students and community for a very productive term. We have much to celebrate and I hope that over the next few weeks you have an opportunity to breath in and have some valuable time with family, without the additional pressures of packing lunches and following tight schedules.
Next term our P&F are coordinating some fantastic fundraising opportunities for our school to raise money for playground improvements. We look forward to our Mango Drive and Colour Run in Term 4 and I thank you for your involvement and support with these initiatives.

National Day of Mourning Public Holiday
As per the announcement made by Prime Minister Albanese, Thursday 22 September has been gazetted as a one-off public holiday a National Day of Mourning for the death of Queen Elizabeth II. All CECG schools and the Catholic Education Office will be closed on this day. Business will return to normal for all CECG schools and the Catholic Education office Friday 23 September.
Parent Portal - COMPASS
Please ensure you have access to Compass for all school communication. As outlined in previous emails and newsletters, STA will be moving to Compass as the sole platform for communication across the school by the end of 2022. (NB- this will be in addition to emails).
https://apps.apple.com/au/app/compass-school-manager/id778415974
The Compass Parent Portal is an online portal that lets you access important information about your child’s school and their progress. Including school reports.
The portal is accessible via the web and the Compass School Manager App (via the App store on your device) and will make engaging with us as a school faster, easier and more secure. It is hoped that by term 4, our school can move away from the various platforms we currently have so that our families are receiving accurate and consistent information.
In my role as an educator, over the years I have seen an increase in children’s anxiety and worries. I mentioned in a previous newsletter an author, Maggie Dent who has become one of Australia’s favourite parenting authors and educators. She has a particular interest in the early years, adolescence and resilience, and is an undisputed ‘boy champion’. I have read a number of her books and articles and thought it may be helpful to share some of her research with you.
Maggie’s experience includes teaching, counselling, and working in palliative care/funeral services and suicide prevention. Maggie is an advocate for the healthy, common-sense raising of children in order to strengthen families and communities. She is a passionate, positive voice for children of all ages.
Maggie is regularly featured on parenting blogs, podcasts and news sites, as well as being heard on commercial and ABC radio around the country. She also appears regularly on national TV. Maggie is the host of the ABC podcast Parental As Anything. Here is a small caption of her research and work:
Fear, worry and anxiety are a normal part of being human (in fact they are essential for our survival) but when they impair our wellbeing, or disrupt our day-to-day lives and health, we need help. As parents, we need to guide our children to better understand and manage these feelings, and to recognise when they might need extra support.
The pace of our world doesn’t help… I firmly believe that much of the stress and anxiety present in children’s lives comes from hidden pressures and overzealous expectations of well-meaning parents and teachers. Adults want to hurry up the innate and unique development of children in a busy, instant world.
I’ve been using creative visualisation techniques since I was a high school teacher and now there is an even greater wealth of research supporting the use of mindfulness and visualisation in stress-reduction. Two tracks that are particularly helpful for younger children experiencing worry or anxiety are my free audio track Safe ‘n Sound and a track I’ve created to help children identify and manage their feelings when their fear/anxiety arises and it is not a necessary response to a dangerous situation. That’s called Soothing the Frightened Butterflies.
Have a peaceful break over the holiday period. I look forward to seeing you and our students return rejuvenated and ready for term 4.
