Pope Francis’ message for Lent 2022 encourages us: Let us not grow tired.
“Let us not grow tired of doing good, for in due time we shall reap our harvest,
if we do not give up. So then, while we have the opportunity,
let us do good to all” (Gal 6:9-10)
During the season of Lent, we support the wonderful work of Caritas through their Project Compassion campaign. We invite our St Anthony's families to join us in supporting Caritas by ordering a t-shirt with our 2022 theme logo on it - 'We are better together than we are alone.' Head to QKR! to place your order by Thursday 10th at 8:30am.
Please continue to remind students of our theme for 2022 and our school expectations. Including our shared understanding of our core values of respecting ourselves, others and property by being fair, kind and safe. It is so important that our students are reminded of this at the beginning of each day. These gentle reminders can contribute to setting our students up for success.
Last Monday Fr Tony and I, along with our Year 6 Teachers had the privilege of presenting our Year 6 Leaders with their badges. Whilst we did not have the opportunity to have all our families join us in the hall, I am grateful so many families were able to be a part of this special occasion on our live stream. Stephen Covey once said, “Leadership is communicating a person’s value so clearly, that they see it in themselves.” I have had the opportunity to witness this with many students each day. Every day I am at school, I am reignited in my belief that our students communicate well. This is evident when I see our students greet teachers each morning, always ensuring that they say hello, often enquiring about the weekend or holidays. Students are encouraged not to ever lose sight of the importance of communication and how powerful it is to continue talking with each other.
Over the past weeks, I have had the opportunity to speak with parents about the challenges we face with technology and communicating with our children about cyber safety.
The parent guide to digital technologies and mental health webinar aims to provide you with the tools to create a safer online environment for young people in your care. Some days (or most days!) it is incredibly challenging to capture our children’s attention, when they are more interested in an xbox, youtube channel, iPhone, iwatch or iphone! So how can we as Parents and carers educate our children around cyber safety?
This free webinar is designed for parents and carers of young people aged 10–18.
It will cover:
* What do to about accidental exposure to content about suicide, self-harm or eating disorders
* Using games, apps and social media to support mental wellbeing
* The pros and cons of digital mental health platforms
* Strategies for young people to support friends online.
Tuesday 8 March 7.30pm – 8.30pm

This week I will be attending the Catholic Leaders Conference with peer Principals’ in Bowral from Wednesday until Friday. I thank staff for their support in being able to attend this conference. I look forward to sharing the information I learn upon my return.
Have a blessed week.
Kind regards,
Erin Marmont

Reminders for school drop off and pick up
Drive through:
- Adults should not get out of their vehicle when utilising the drive through option for dropping off and picking up students. If your child requires assistance getting out of or into the car you will need to park in the school's carpark.
There are two lanes for afternoon pick up, if the lane on the right (blue arrows) is full, please use the lane on the left (orange arrows). DO NOT QUEUE ON WHEELER CRESCENT. - If you arrive for drive through pick up prior to the children being dismissed you may be required to do a loop of the carpark (green arrows). Alternatively you can park in one of the bays and join the pick up line once traffic starts to move. Please note, students are dismissed at 3:05pm and supervision of students concludes at 3:30pm. Traffic is lighter from 3:15pm.
- It is a last resort for us to call wet weather pick up due to the disruption it causes to learning and to local traffic. This will only occur if the conditions on the oval are unsafe, or if the weather is severe. In this instance, we will send out an SZapp message notifying families of the wet weather pick up - there is no need to contact the office. If your child is collected from the oval, it may be beneficial to pack a small umbrella in their bags in case of rain. If you find the carpark stressful during wet weather pick up we suggest you arrive at 3:20pm when the traffic has usually eased.
- Your children are watching and learning how to be patience, kind and considerate.
Please make sure your child is bringing a water bottle to school each day. The bubblers remain closed at this stage due to covid.
Last week we had Michael from Menslink come to St Anthony's and speak with our Year Six boys. We will continue working with Menslink throughout the year. Michael wanted us to share some of the support offered by Menslink for families at St Anthony's, all cost free.
For 20 years, Menslink have provided free counselling to young guys throughout the Canberra region.
If your young guy is having a hard time and could really use someone to talk to, get in touch - our wait times are currently low so we're ready to help when your young guy needs it. We provide a welcoming and supportive environment for young guys to share their concerns and worries and we provide tips and strategies to get them through those tough times that many of them are facing right now.
Menslink Counselling sessions are completely confidential and are available to any young guy aged 10-25. There are no fees or charges or limits to the number of sessions. You don't need a mental health plan and we are available during school terms and school holidays.
Do you think your young guy would really benefit from a counselling session? If so, have a chat with them and head to www.menslink.org.au , hit the 'Get Help' button, fill in the form and we'll get back to you, generally the same or next business day.
If you need more info on how to have that chat with them, just email admin@menslink.org.au or call 6287 2226 and we will send you some information.
