Dear Families,
Father Tony Percy, our Parish Priest and Vicar General, is a wonderful presence in our school and community. We very much value Fr Tony’s connection with St Anthony’s and I know the staff and students welcome his conversations and engagement. Fr Tony also shares reflections based on the readings of the day. I have shared yesterday’s reflection below:
Where we are at
The disciples are unable to heal a Father’s son. Jesus says they are ‘faithless’ (Mark 9).
Authoritatively he says:
Bring him to me.
A dialogue ensues between Jesus and the boy’s father:
If you can do anything, Jesus, have compassion on us and help us.
Jesus said to him, ‘If you can!’ Everything is possible to one who has faith.
The encounter reaches a crescendo:
The boy’s father cried out, ‘I do believe, help my unbelief.’
Honesty with Jesus about ‘where we are at’ leads to trust and trust deepens our relationship with the Lord.
Amen.
In weeks 8 and 9 we look forward to providing an opportunity for Parent/Teacher Interviews via Teams with families and their child’s teacher. More information will be provided in our next newsletter.
Last Tuesday, I attended our school’s AGM and P&F meeting and tonight I will join our School Board for our first meeting of the year. How grateful I am for the wonderful volunteers across our school, whether it be in the canteen, clothing pool, P&F, Board or playing a role behind the scenes. Your engagement with our school is so important and I am incredibly appreciative of your time and support. If you would like to become more involved in our school community, whilst we may not be able to be physically onsite this term, there are many ways that family engagement is still possible. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher if you would like to find out more.
Over the past weeks, I have spoken in detail with our students around expectations and behaviour. I am incredibly proud of the maturity and responsibility that our students are taking on to ensure they are following these expectations.
For some students this can be more difficult than others. Like in the classroom, with behaviour processes there is not a one size fits all approach. Differentiating how we respond to behaviour is a part of treating each child with dignity and respect. Please be assured that the safety and wellbeing of all students in our care is paramount and appropriate consequences are in place if students are not making good choices.
This year has already brought about many challenges. However, with challenges, bring hope, spirit and growth. I have been incredibly proud of our staff and students on how they have responded to the immense change in our current environment. I am inspired by the energy, spark and spirit that I witness from our teachers everyday in classrooms as they continue to work to maintain consistent structure and routines for our students. I am thankful for our staff across the school, who greet each student with a smile and reach out to many students who may often need some additional love in the mornings when their parents or carers cannot be present on school grounds. I thank our parents and carers across the community, for your patience and understanding during this pandemic. I appreciate how difficult this time is for so many families in our community, particularly with loss of employment and loved ones, isolation and illness. Please know, you continue to be in our prayers and thoughts.
With kind regards,
Erin Marmont
