Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for your continued support during the ongoing COVID-19 period. Things are progressing well at school and we are hoping to be able to replicate our year level assemblies in a new form over the remainder of the year. Each year level will be putting together some of their learning in digital form to share with you. More information will follow shortly.
Building Project Update
I know that parents and carers are unable to view the progress of the new building work but construction of the new 6 classroom block is coming along well. The recent rain has not caused any significant delays. Recently the concrete ‘waffle’ slab was laid and this week the structural steel has started to be constructed. The shape of the block and classrooms is identifiable. Work should progress quickly from here.
2020 Parent Survey
Each year Catholic Education commission a satisfaction survey with separate questions for students in Years 3-6, staff and parents. Members of all Catholic school communities complete the survey with your individual feedback provided to St Anthony’s.
The survey is open now and you should have received an email with a link to complete the survey. If you can’t recall receiving the invite to complete the survey please please check in your spam inbox.
The survey closes next Wednesday 19 August.
Thank you if you are able to take the time to complete the survey. Your feedback contributes to improving St Anthony’s and the strategic planning for the school.
Communication
As you may have observed this year, the school newsletter is being published fortnightly. The newsletter will have school information, updates and community news. The School Board and the P & F are working with the school to ensure the various communication avenues within the school have a purpose and are effective. The P&F recently conducted a survey and one of the questions was about preferred communication. Schoolzine clearly topped the choice for receiving school information. The good thing about Schoolzine notifications is that messages can be sent on demand and in real time. The messages are also archived for you to select the information that is relevant to you and your child.
Class Dojo rated highly and this would be because staff use this form of communication for class and year level information. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the staff are also sharing some whole school learning activities, awards, liturgies and other events through Class Dojo.
If you have any concerns about your child please contact their teacher.
ACT Election-Saturday 17 October
There are 8 weeks until the ACT Election and I am sure you are seeing candidates from all parties at shopping centres (or even receiving phone calls from them). I encourage you to approach candidates at the shopping centres and mention or discuss the value of ACT Catholic Schools and quiz them on their party’s support for ACT Catholic Schools.
In the ACT, there are 29 systemic Catholic Schools who educate 15 000 students. In Canberra, Catholic schools are very similar to public schools, with our schools having almost exactly the same average ICSEA score (1077-1076). Our schools are inclusive, support families from all backgrounds, and operate on a modest budget.
Did you know that when you compare the total funding that Catholic schools in each state/territory receive, the ACT are the second lowest funded Catholic schools in the country? This is particularly impacted by the ACT Government’s low funding of Catholic schools.
Have a chat to the candidates and mention that you are a parent in an ACT Catholic School and funding of Catholic Schools is an important issue for you.
God Bless,
Greg Walker
