Statement from Archbishop Christopher Prowse on the Election of Pope Leo
Habernus Papam! We have a Pope. With great joy, I join the Church worldwide in welcoming Pope Leo XIV as the 267th successor of St. Peter. Guided by the Holy Spirit, the College of Cardinals has discerned a leader deeply rooted in faith, unity, and service.
When Pope Leo XIV appeared on the balcony, his first words, "Peace be with you," echoed the greeting of the Risen Lord. It is a reminder that the Pope's primary mission, like St. Peter and his successors, is to proclaim the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. His smile and serene presence have already touched hearts, offering the world a message of hope and renewal.
The American born Pope Leo XlV's motto, as a bishop, "In the One, one" beautifully reflects his call to unify. From the people of Rome to his Peruvian diocese and beyond, his opening address spoke of peace, walking together, and God's unfailing mercy and love. His focus on unity and his commitment to the themes of synodality show a desire to bring collective harmony to a diverse, global Church.
The new Pope's experience is as varied as it is profound. His time as an Augustinian monk, Prior General of the Augustinian Order and Peruvian bishop and his significant Vatican roles exemplify a balance of his mystical, pastoral, administrative and linguistic charisms. This rich and diverse background uniquely equips him to guide the Church with wisdom and compassion. His choice of Leo XIV reminds us of Pope Leo Xlll (1 878-1 903) whose long Papal ministry was foundational to the articulation of Catholic Social Teaching.
We now enter a time of prayer as Pope Leo XIV prepares for his formal installation and begins his ministry as the Bishop of Rome. With gratitude for the legacy of Pope Francis, we move forward with confidence, trusting the Holy Spirit to lead us through this Jubilee pilgrimage of hope. I ask all the faithful to join me in praying for Pope Leo XIV as he undertakes this God given mission.
May God bless him, and may his Servant leadership bring abundant grace to the Church and the world.
Archbishop Christopher Prowse
Catholic Archbishop of Canberra and Goulburn
As we pray for Pope Le XIV’s we also keep in our prayers our year 6 candidates who are preparing for Confirmation in week 6. May the Holy spirit continue to guide them.
Quote from Pope Leo X1V.*
Published on May 12, 2025
” Brothers, sisters…
I speak to you, especially to those who no longer believe, no longer hope, no longer pray, because they think God has left. To those who are fed up with scandals, with misused power, with the silence of a Church that sometimes seems more like a palace than a home. I, too, was angry with God. I, too, saw good people die, children suffer, grandparents cry without medicine.
And yes… there were days when I prayed and only felt an echo.
But then I discovered something: God doesn’t shout. God whispers. And sometimes He whispers from the mud, from pain, from a grandmother who feeds you without having anything. I don’t come to offer you perfect faith.
I come to tell you that faith is a walk with stones, puddles, and unexpected hugs. I’m not asking you to believe in everything. I’m asking you not to close the door. Give a chance to the God who waits for you without judgment. I’m just a priest who saw God in the smile of a woman who lost her son… and yet she cooked for others.
That changed me. So if you’re broken, if you don’t believe, if you’re tired of the lies…come anyway. With your anger, your doubt, your dirty backpack. No one here will ask you for a VIP card. Because this Church, as long as I breathe, will be a home for the homeless, and a rest for the weary. God doesn’t need soldiers. He needs brothers. And you, yes, you…are one of them.”
Robert Prevost (Leo XIV)

Mothers’ day art expo and sweet treats
Our sincere thanks to our wonderful teachers, staff and all of the important women in our lives who came to help us celebrate Mother’s Day. Our students were delighted to share their artwork with you and have you visiting our school. Thank you for coming.
Kiss and Go at drive through
A reminder to families who use our before and after school drop off zone. Please note that this is a “kiss and go” zone. Please do not park in this area. If students are needing to be put into a car seat or you are needing to get out of your car, please access the carpark area and park your car and walk your child up to the school. This is for the safety of all children in our school.
Family play date
Save the date and come and join our families for a play at Tuggeranong Park on Sunday 15 June.
Vinnies CEO Sleepout
Every night, thousands of Australians experience homelessness. But it doesn’t have to be that way. This year on the 19th June, I’m taking part in the Vinnies CEO sleepout to raise money for the St Vincent de Paul Society to support Australians in need. For one night, I’ll be sleeping outside as part of an eye-opening experience to raise awareness and bring home the realities of homelessness.
