2020 Parents and Friends Association
On Wednesday night our P&F Association held their 2019 AGM and first general meeting for 2020.
Pleasingly, there were 12 attendees and 2 apologies. A good result for our first meeting and most roles for this year were filled. Thank you to the parents and carers that attended and to those that have volunteered for positions. Parent involvement and engagement with the school and in their child’s education is vital in the successful operation of the school. We encourage more parents to become involved in the P&F this year and continue this positive start to the year. The P&F is exploring new ways to engage with parents and to increase interest and attendance at meetings. Watch for more information on this in the near future. Thank you. The P&F Executive and Key roles are listed below:
President: Selina Walker (re-elected)
Vice-President: Alison Reardon (new)
Treasurer: Trish Rae (re-elected)
Secretary: Kylie Brown (new)
School Board Representative: Louise Wright (new)
Fete: Committee Group led by Cath Rollinson (re-elected)
Walkathon: Vacant (Support will be offered to you)
Canteen Treasurer: Penny Shaw (new)
Clothing Pool: Monika Renda, Trish Rae (re-elected)
Netball Coordinator: Jodie Russell (new)
Thank you to our president Selina Walker and the 2019 members of the P&F for their generous contribution to the school. Special thanks to the P&F members finishing their recent roles including Marsha Rutten for her work as secretary. Thank you to Louise Patton on a very successful Walkathon again in 2019, raising a profit of approximately $15 000. Louise has coordinated the last 6 Walkathons. An amazing effort. Thank you to Niki Best for her work as canteen treasurer, a very important bookkeeping and accounting role. Thank you to Josie Rutten for successfully coordinating our netball association last season.
VACANCIES: The P&F is looking for interested parents and carers to fill the 2020 roles of:
- Walkathon Coordinator. Louise Patton is more than happy to help out and shadow a new coordinator of this successful event.
- Trivia Night Coordinator. The P&F is seeking someone to run a Trivia Night or a similar social event this year. Ideas welcome.
- 2021 Fete Coordinator. This will be the last fete led by Cath and the committee. Ideally we are seeking a new fete coordinator to shadow the team this year and be ready to take over later in the year.
- 2021 Treasurer. This will be Trish’s last year in this role. Again, we are seeking someone with finance experience to shadow Trish this year and take over next year.
Student Initiative - SAVE the Koalas!
Five passionate Year 3 students have started their own campaign to fundraise to support and care for koalas impacted by the recent bushfires in Australia. Chase, Tiahna, Rosy, Elyse and Isaac have teamed up to sell really cute koala items like T-shirts, key rings, stickers etc to raise money to save and care for our much loved native koalas! They will set up a stall next week on the walkway so please consider buying something to support this terrific cause. Funds raised will go to WWF and also the ‘Track Your Koala’ program. Well done to the Year 3 students and their families for this great initiative.
Stormbirds Natural Disaster Program
This year a number of St Anthony's staff members have been trained to facilitate the Stormbirds Program. Stormbirds provides an opportunity for children and young people who have experienced a natural disaster to share their experiences of change and loss in safe and creative ways, understand and attend to their feelings, and learn skills for adapting and recovering. This takes place in an atmosphere of like-to-like peer support.
If you think that your child would benefit from participating in this program, please email beth.lehmensich@cg.catholic.edu.au or speak to your child's classroom teacher.
New Archdiocesan Catholic Education Parent Survey
Catholic Education, Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn (Catholic Education), will shortly release an online survey to better understand your opinion of the value Catholic schools like ours provide and what that means for you and your children. The findings of this research will be used by Catholic Education to improve the offering of Catholic schools.
The survey will be sent out to parents electronically in the coming week and should take less than 15 minutes to complete.
Reminder: 3.30pm is the end time of staff supervision of students using drive through and oval pick up options
Please pick up your children by 3.30pm deadline.
Thank you to parents and carers for working with our new school finish time of 3.05pm and the associated routines. I appreciate that sometimes parents or carers work situations may mean that they are a little late to pick up their children after school. Staff have meetings and commitments after school and are unable to provide supervision after 3.30pm. Students that are not collected by 3.30pm have been taken to OOSCA where they can be supervised. Please be aware that OOSCA incurs costs for providing this care and a late fee will apply. As 4 weeks of the new times have passed for parents to adjust to the new times, a late fee will be now be applied. Parents in these circumstances are asked to register with OOSCA and discuss the care arrangements needed with Necta.
Staff do provide 25 minutes of supervision from 3.05pm to 3.30pm and the school does have to enforce the new pickup time deadline. Staff also provide 25 minutes of supervision in the mornings from 8.30am until 8.55am.
Thank you for your understanding with the new times and processes and I hope that things have settled now.
Morning Drop Off and Afternoon Pick Up
Reminder: You are not permitted to get out of your car to assist your child if using the drive through option.
These two options are intended to be quick, convenient and safe ways for parents and carers to drop off and collect their child/children. You are not permitted to get out of your car to assist your child/children. Each child needs to be able to hop in and out of your car independently, be able to do their own seatbelt and be able to handle their own bag.
If you need to assist your child/children in any way then they are not ready for you to use the drop off or drive through service. Please park in the school park areas provided and collect your child/children from the safety of the asphalt or walkway area or use the oval crossing option.
I have had numerous complaints from parents and carers that these protocols are not being followed. In some cases, adults and students have been placed in dangerous situations circling around their car where they could be hit by another vehicle.
Your support with these routines is greatly appreciated.
Reminder: Do not park on the school nature strip or surrounds
I have also had reports of safety issues in regards to parents and carers dropping off or picking up children from areas at the front of the school like the nature strips and surrounding areas. The concerns relate to cars and 4WD drive vehicles jumping the curb and driving in close proximity to pedestrians and children on bikes. The other concern raised is that vehicles parked in these areas block the visibility of the nearby road Wheeler Crescent.
If you, or someone transporting your child/children, does not want to use the designated drive through areas mentioned above then please use the oval crossing option or car park areas and collect your children from the asphalt/walkway areas.
Your support in not parking in these areas is greatly appreciated.
Happy Birthday to the following students who have or are about to celebrate a birthday.
Christopher C, Emily R, Dhanveer R, Jason B, Henry D-E, Marcel Y, Emily W, Annabelle R, Alexandra W, Eleanor C, Shaun D, Dante V-D, Chloe E, Dylan H, Saandhni D and Douglas B.
Warmest wishes on your special day.
Thank you to the many families who have ensured their child is wearing the correct unifom. Enrolment at St Anthony's indicates that each child will abide strictly with our uniform policy. Students are to wear full and correct uniform to school each day. This includes the correct coloured hair ties/bows. The only exceptions to this are when the school holds an 'out of uniform' day. Parents are asked to stongly support this rule making sure that shoes are of the correct type - BLACK LEATHER school shoes and the school bag has the school's logo. Fluro sneakers/laces are not part of our uniform. The only jewellery permitted are a watch and stud earrings.
Sofia C in 1 Lisbon is very excited to announce that she has a baby brother. Welcome baby Sebastian.
