Dear STA Families,
Welcome to our final newsletter for Term 4, 2023.
A reminder that our last day of term is this Thursday.
What a year! With so much accomplished…from our school fete, working bees, opening a new front of school garden, discos, trivia nights, new shade sails, fresh paint and carpet in our classrooms and wonderful learning across our school. I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to lead alongside Father Tom the St Anthony’s School community this year. I especially feel honoured to have worked closely with many parents and students, our School Board, P&F and our committed staff, during this time. Thank you for your time volunteering to make our school such a wonderful place to be. I would like to thank Fr Tom and the St Anthony’s Parish family for their continued support and prayers for our school, we are truly blessed to have such a strong connection with them. I thank our dedicated staff, who strive daily to make a difference in the lives of all our students as inspirational and passionate educators.
I am delighted to welcome Mr Luke Brown and Mrs Mandy Cowley to St Anthony’s in 2024. Mr Brown will be working as a Year two teacher and Mrs Cowley will join us on Mondays and Tuesdays to cover classes as needed. Both are experienced teachers who I know will bring a strong level of professionalism and excellent teaching and learning to STA.
FAREWELL: In 2023 we will farewell some wonderful staff who have given their commitment to STA over a number of years. There will be an opportunity to farewell these staff at our whole school Thanksgiving Liturgy in the hall on Thursday 14 December from 12.00pm Families are welcome to attend. We thank them each for their dedication, service and hard work in the time they have worked at St Anthony’s Parish Primary School and wish them all the very best for their future endeavors:
The following staff will be farewelled in 2023:
Jon Liddle
Helen Phillipa
Holly Coggan
Brianna White
Today between 12pm-1pm we will have our step-up day for 2024. This will be an opportunity for our students to meet their 2024 teacher, visit their new classroom and become familiar with who their classmates will be next year. A letter will be sent home with your child this afternoon from your child’s 2024 so you can learn a little more about them.

School Fees
Thank you to all of our families who have been patient and understanding during the CE finance transition. School fees fund most of the learning experiences which occur at St Anthony’s and as such, it is important that we receive all monies in a timely manner. Please ensure that you have/are meeting your financial commitment to your child’s education. Please reach out if you need to.
School fees for 2024 are shown in the table below. The school fee in 2024 will include the tuition fee and all school-based levies. We have also reviewed and updated the arrangements for family discounts, which are included in the school fee for 2024.
Your school fees are used to support the delivery of high-quality education and maintain and improve facilities, including the funding of all staff and the maintenance and improvement of facilities at the school. Voluntary contributions to the Canberra Catholic Schools Build Fund (CCSBF) will be $210 per term for those families that opt-in to make a contribution to the CCSBF.
Our students continue to benefit from a high-quality educational experience and a wide range of learning and co-curricular opportunities. We continue to see improvement in academic achievement of students, particularly in literacy and numeracy. This commitment to learning combined with knowing each child continues to nurture the growth and development of every child.
We are very mindful of the impact that any fee increase can have on families. We have carefully considered these impacts in setting 2024 school fees and have attempted to keep the increases to a minimum. If you have any concern that fees in 2024 may cause hardship for you and your family I encourage you to contact me for a confidential discussion on the assistance available to support your child.
We value your partnership and we sincerely thank you for your continued support of our school. If you have any questions about school fees or require assistance on any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Please note: The cost for the Year 5/6 Camp has not been included in your child’s annual fees – this will be invoiced separately.

Clothing Pool
Thank you, Carolyn, our super organised clothing shop wonder woman! Carolyn has spent countless hours washing, folding and sorting school uniforms as well as many Saturdays over the year to open up the clothing shop for our families.
The clothing pool will be open this Saturday from 9.30am-11.00am.
We will reopen in 2024 on Saturday 20 January 9.30-11.00am
Monday 29 January 9.30-11.00am
Tuesday 30 January 9.30-11.00am
The clothing pool will be open every even Saturday (weeks 2,4,6,8,10) in 2024 from 9.30-11.00am.
STA Kitchen Garden
St Anthony’s has been successful in receiving funding from the ACT Community Gardens Grant Program. These funds of $9482 will be used towards establishing an outdoor learning space and kitchen garden to promote social inclusion, and promotion of healthy living. Included in the application was our schools commitment to principals of the circular economy (e.g. reusing, recycling, repurposing) and zero emissions (electric alternatives to fossil fuel powered tools and equipment) or carbon sequestration (e.g. composting, planting of trees and shrubs). We look forward to a high level of community support, including volunteers and sponsorship to create another wonderful learning space for our students.
Works for this project will commence this week to clear the small site near the oval behind OOSCA so that planting can begin as early as possible in term 1, 2024.

Transport Canberra - School Holiday Timetable
Transport Canberra has announced today that the school holiday timetable will be implemented from Monday 18 December 2023 to Sunday 28 January 2024 inclusive.
The school holiday bus timetable will deliver the same reliable network and frequency that is currently in place while only removing the school services and diversions over the six-week period.
Free travel will be available on Christmas Day and from 5:00 pm New Year’s Eve for bus and light rail services.
Christmas Day
Other changes over this period include a special Christmas Day bus timetable. Light rail will run to a regular Sunday/public holiday frequency.
New Year’s Eve
On New Year’s Eve, a regular Sunday bus timetable will operate until 10:00 pm, followed by additional Rapid services scheduled after 10:00 pm (excluding the Rapid 8) to support the New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Light rail will deliver an extended timetable and increased services on New Year’s Eve. This will offer 10-minute frequency from 4:30 pm from Gungahlin Place until last service at 1:00 am, and 5:00 pm from Alinga Street until last service at 1:30 am.
