Dear STA Families,
Welcome to week 8. I hope our families enjoyed our Father’s day celebration last Friday. How wonderful it was to have so many people join us for breakfast. My thanks to our wonderful STA staff for getting up early to ensure bacon and eggs were ready to serve!
I pray for our families who have lost their Dad. These celebrations can often be a difficult reminder of how much their Dad is truly loved and missed. A huge shout out to those in our community who are the Mum and Dad in the family. You are very valued and appreciated.
Last Friday, I had the fortunate opportunity to attend the first Southside Corroboree Family culture day which was held on the Boomanulla Oval. The purpose of the day was to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families the opportunity to develop connections and relationships with each other through games, activities, cultural learning and socialisation. Thank you to our STA families who were able to be a part of this day.
For some of us, the weekend sports activities have come to a close…if you are still looking for something to fill your Saturday morning, come along to our final working bee for the front of the school garden. As I’m sure many of you have seen, there has been significant progress made by our wonderful parent body to create a beautiful garden space out the front of the school. The working bee will be from 9.30-12pm this Saturday. Bring along your gardening gloves, a rake and shovel and share in a few laughs along the way.
Our official opening of the garden will be on Friday 22 September from 10.00am.
Clothing pool
A reminder that students are to be wearing their hats now the weather is becoming warmer. Full summer uniform is not worn until Term 4. If you are needing some last minute clothing items to get through the weeks ahead- the clothing pool is open this Saturday from 9.30am.
Year 5 and 6 Musical
Our Year 5 and 6 classes have been working very hard to present our school musical Pirates of the Currybean. The musical will be showcased at Mackillop theatre on the 12-13th October. Tickets are being sold via QKR for $15.00. The performance will be held on the 12th October at 6pm, 13th October at 12.15pm and 6.00pm. We look forward to seeing our community at the show.
RUOK?
Our students celebrated RUOK? Day today. Well done to all involved! This year’s theme I’m hear to hear. The focus of the day was to connect with those around you. There are some valuable resources that can be found at http://www.ruok.org.au
P&F and Board
Last week we had our P&F meeting and tomorrow night our school board will meet together. Part of the board meeting will focus on the direction for a School Community Council from 2024. Sarah Meier, General Counsel and governance from Catholic Education will join the first part of the meeting to provide information and answer any questions. More details will be outlined on what this will look like for STA. Please be assured that the input of our community body is very much valued and appreciated. Our school will continue to work with families as an advisory on the direction of St Anthony’s.
After school supervision reminders
A gentle reminder that students are to remain with their parents/carers if they are being collected after school. Ball games are not permitted at pick up areas for the safety of all students, particularly near the road and school crossing.
Italian day celebrations
Save the date! Monday of week 10. Families are welcome to our Italian morning assembly from 9.00am in the hall. Students are invited to wear Italian colours or dress in an Italian theme on this day. Students will participate in Italian activities including pizza tasting, soccer games and car racing demos throughout the day with their teachers. Parents/Carers can purchase through QKR Gelato ice cream for their child for $5.00. Further details from Signor Mockler will be shared via compass next week.
First Holy Communion
Over the last two weekends, many of our Year 4 students received the sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time. Each mass was a beautiful celebration of this special occasion and it was lovely to see so many of our school community in attendance to support our students. My thanks to Beth Lehmenisch for coordinating the program and Fr Tom Thornton for celebrating each mass with us, as well as our teachers who supported students in the lead up to their First Holy Communion.
Recognition Awards
Congratulations to our amazing ELC staff who received the Director's Special Recognition award for their outstanding professionalism and commitment to education at the Catholic Education Faith in Learning Excellence Awards on Thursday 24 August. We are so blessed to have such a magnetic and highly professional team working within the St. Anthony's Early Learning Centre.
