Sunday’s Gospel reading
John 10:1-10
Jesus said:
‘I tell you most solemnly, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold through the gate, but gets in some other way is a thief and a brigand. The one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the flock; the gatekeeper lets him in, the sheep hear his voice, one by one he calls his own sheep and leads them out. When he has brought out his flock, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow because they know his voice. They never follow a stranger but run away from him: they do not recognise the voice of strangers.’
Jesus told them this parable but they failed to understand what he meant by telling it to them. So Jesus spoke to them again: ‘I tell you most solemnly, I am the gate of the sheepfold. All others who have come are thieves and brigands; but the sheep took no notice of them. I am the gate. Anyone who enters through me will be safe: he will go freely in and out and be sure of finding pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.
I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full.’
What a wonderful start to the term. Congratulations to all of our wonderful staff, students and families for your preparation to ensure our term began calmly and smoothly. I am very proud of the way our students have returned to school so settled and ready for learning. HOw lovely it was to see our Year 6 families at Mass last Thursday as they prepare for their Confirmation. We are very blessed to have Fr. Tom leading our commitment Mass on the 25 May and being a part of this special journey with our students.
My thanks to Mr Josh McGrath for his organisation of our Cross country yesterday. The students participated joyfully and the rain held off for us!
Signing in and out of school
Please ensure that when your child is late or is being picked up early, they are signed in or out of school by a parent or guardian. This is a mandatory requirement..
High school enrolments are now open
Please ensure that your Year 6 child’s enrolment application is in on time for their potential high school. I cannot stress this enough that enrolment applications need to be in on time. Primary schools do not enrol students into high school. It is the role of the parent/guardian to complete this process. Please note that student reports can be accessed through your child’s Compass portal. Thank you for your understanding.
This term is a particularly busy one, with many events and celebrations ahead. Please save the dates for the following events:
Next Friday 12 May is our Mother’s day breakfast and Liturgy (led by Year 2), all information was sent via compass last Friday how to order your bacon and egg roll for brekkie! All families are welcome to join us for this Mothers day breakfast celebration.
Our Sports Extravaganza is on Monday 15th May- this will be an opportunity to present sporting ribbons to students for a number of sporting events students have participated in over the past term. More details will be sent out next week.
This Saturday is our school fete. This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to join together and showcase our spirit as an STA family. All funds raised from the fete will go towards playground and hall improvements, and the purchasing of STA sporting jerseys.
Here are some reminders for the week ahead:
Please return all raffle tickets (sold and unsold) to school by this THURSDAY
FETE MATES: Here's a great fete deal. Pay $15 for a Fete Mates package and get a drink, hot dog, book, hair spray and ice block. Pay before the fete on QKR!
RIDE BANDS: The all-day amusement ride wrist bands are now on sale on QKR! ahead of the fete for $25. They will be $30 on the day.
NON-UNIFORM DAY: In celebration of the fete, students have a non-uniform day on Thursday, May 4. We ask if on this day each child could also bring in a chocolate bar and give it to their class teacher for the chocolate trailer at the fete. Two $50 gift cards to dine at the Canberra Southern Cross Club in Woden will also be given out of the draw to two students on the Non-Uniform Day as another special pre-fete treat.
BRING YOUR COINS AND CASH: We will have an ATM and several cashless payment options at the fete but please don't forget to bring cash and coins to the fete to make it easier to buy a yummy cake or beautiful plant or homemade treasure. The chocolate trailer involves tossing coins to try to land on a chocolate wheel so start stocking up!

Have a wonderful week!
Now that the weather is starting to cool down, please ensure that your children’s names are on their jumpers, as well as on hats, lunch boxes and drink bottles.
Jumpers, hats, lunch boxes, fruit boxes and drink bottles found around the school property are put in the Lost Property bins in the Library. Those with identifiable names are returned to their owners in the classrooms.
Jumpers without names (including those that are not clearly identifiable) are taken to the Clothing Pool for re-sale (12 to 15 jackets a fortnight!!). The Clothing Pool cannot re-sell hats.
Drink bottles and lunch containers are put on display in the window of the Library and, if not claimed within a week, are put in the rubbish.
Due to the same “first or last name” possibly being used by more than one family, a first name Initial and the last name would be very helpful in identifying the correct student to return items.
Thank you!!
Book Club phamphlets were sent home last week. All orders are to made online, and order close Monday Week 3.
