This poster has been created to commemorate Remembrance Day in 2022. It helps remember and recognise all those who lost their lives in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping or humanitarian operations. The photograph was taken in the Hall of Memory at the Australian War Memorial by photographer Hilary Wardhaugh, and depicts veterans of the Korean War and Vietnam War paying their respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier. Last Friday, our students paid tribute to those who have lost their lives through our Remembrance Day Liturgy. How proud I was of each of the students in the reverence they displayed throughout the entirety of the Liturgy.
How wonderful it has been for our students to participate in a variety of excursions over the past weeks. I have had a wonderful response from teachers commenting on how well the children have behaved and responded to the exciting events they have attended. I thank our families too, for their continued support and encouragement of ensuring kind and respectful behaviour from children.
We continue to pray for our students who are making the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Fr. Tony is such a wonderful presence for our children and community and I am very grateful for the meaningful connections he makes with the children as they receive their sacraments.
This week, our school will be engaging with ThinkUKnow to speak with our students from Years 3-6 at school around cybersafety.ThinkUKnow Australia is an evidence-based education program led by the Australian Federal Police (AFP), delivered nationally in partnership with police and industry partners to prevent online child sexual exploitation. Colour Run
Next Friday we are very excited that the Colour Run will be going ahead. My thanks to all involved in the organisation of this event and our wonderful parent volunteers. The splash of colour I’m sure will bring lots of joy and smiles to our children’s faces. Don’t forget to register through the online portal that is included with our fundraiser! ?
There are lots of interactive features, and plenty of rewards up for grabs, like free incentive prize credit!
Visit www.australianfundraising.com.au to get started! If you are volunteering for this event, please meet Mr Josh McGrath our PE teacher at the front office at 1.00pm on Friday, 25 November. All money raised will go towards playground improvements.
School Reports and Interviews
Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn (CECG) has communicated to schools informing them that general comments will not be required on the Semester 2, 2022 reports. This is in line with other educational jurisdictions and systems. Given teacher workload at present, including staffing pressures across the profession, CECG’s position is to prioritise parent/teacher conferences occurring during Term 4. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, their strengths, challenges, and future areas of focus. A Semester Report will be sent home as in previous semesters providing A-E grading and attendance information.
Week 9- Parent/Teacher Interviews
Week 10- School Reports Home
St Anthony’s prides itself on being a place of learning excellence, where every child is nourished and develops under our core vision of Faith, Belonging and Learning. St Anthony’s Parish Primary School fosters a teaching and learning environment where there are clear expectations and purposeful learning. Enrolment in a school involves mutual rights and responsibilities of the Principal and staff, the parents/carers and the student, and all members are entitled to a safe environment conducive to quality teaching and learning. To support these mutual rights and responsibilities, our behaviour guidance policy provides behavioural support approaches that reflect Gospel values and respects the dignity of students.
If a student exhibits challenging behaviours that interfere with the safety and dignity of students and staff, behavioural support may be required. More serious or continuing disruptive behaviour may require increased support, restorative measures, or corrective responses. I thank the community for their support in our guidance processes and procedures.
CLASSES 2023: as outlined in our last newsletter, please be assured that a great deal of time goes into balancing classes, taking into account the social, academic and behavioural needs of each child. I am conscious of interest groupings, friends and the needs of all. Not every request can be honoured and from experience I find that the students settle very quickly and happily into their new class. We do not change a child’s allocated class unless a serious and compelling reason exists. If you have a serious and compelling request for your child in 2023, please make an appointment via our school office to meet or contact me by the end of this week.
If your child is leaving St Anthony’s at the end of 2022 (except Year 6) please remember to notify the office. Confirmation of Staffing will be distributed in the Week 10 Newsletter. ‘Step Up’’ day is on Thursday, 15th December from 12pm to 1pm. It is anticipated all students will have an opportunity to meet their 2023 classroom teacher on that afternoon. This is a fabulous opportunity for our students to get a sense of who they will be sharing their learning journey with in 2023.
