Preschool News
Easter is fast approaching, with the Easter holidays nearly here. Each of our classes have spent time during their daily prayer circle sharing the story of Easter. We understand that for many students this is their first time encountering the Easter story and there can be lots of questions. In sharing the story of Easter we share with the students the fact that some people did not like Jesus, and he was put to death on a cross. In sharing the story we bring the focus to Easter Sunday and the amazing news discovered by Jesus friends and disciples, that Jesus is risen. Our focus is very much on the hope that Easter brings us – the hope of new life, just as Christ rose to life on Easter Sunday.
We have loved sharing in the celebration of Easter with each of you – with our Easter Breakfast and Hat Parade on Tuesday and Thursday morning. It was lovely to be able to gather together as a community and we hope that you enjoyed the chance to get to know some other families and see the children’s fabulous Easter hat creations. Throughout Lent students at the ELC and Primary school have been invited to bring in donations for Caritas Australia. Money raised will be used to support community projects in a few different countries. As a community St Anthony’s has raised over $2000, which is enough money to buy a water tank to provide freshwater to a school in Samoa.
Society, part of the organisation behind the Ready to Read program we are piloting this year with other ELCs in Catholic Education. Yolanda spent the day at our service, observing our teachers as they spent some time story reading with students and sharing lessons based on word knowledge and phonemic awareness. This was a very affirming visit for our service and Yolanda commended the staff on the great work they are doing supporting students. Hopefully your child has been happy to chat with you about some of the stories they have read throughout this term.
