GRANDFRIENDS DAY

Grandfriends.png

We had such a lovely time with our Grand friends and other visiting family members on Tuesday and Friday this week. Thank you for taking time out from your busy weeks to enjoy the morning with us. Grand friends day is one of my favourite days on the Preschool calendar. It is beautiful to see the children’s delight in having their family along to join in some play at preschool and share some morning tea with us. We hope our visitors enjoyed themselves as well ?.

There has been lots going on at the ELC in the last few weeks as we finished off the term. We really enjoyed our dress up day – with the ‘When I grow up’ theme. This was a fun way to finish off our explorations on community and a great way of thinking about the people who make up our community. We had lots of different community workers make an appearance on our dress up days: teachers, doctors, police officers, fire fighters, farmers, vets, builders, chefs and hairdressers. Each of the classes were also visited by Constable Kenny Koala who spoke to the students about staying safe in our community. It would be great to have a chat with your child about some of the things Kenny shared with them for staying safe.

Happy Holidays

We hope you all have a chance to rest a little over the term break – whether that is a few relaxed days at home, some slower starts in the morning or some time away. We know our students get tired (and so do we ?!) as the term comes to an end, and all of us need some relaxed and unstructured days to recharge.  The educators working in holiday care are always mindful of this and will be ensuring children have some less hurried days and plenty of time to direct their own play during our holiday program.

Just like us, little people need time to refill their energy cups, to build their resilience and wellbeing. Some great tips from Maggie Dent for filling children’s energy cups are:

  • Spending enough one on one connection to fill your child’s unique love cup
  • Meeting unmet needs — are they hungry, thirsty, or need a sleep, a hug?
  • Time outside — fresh air and greenery are naturally restorative
  • Time off screens
  • Meeting friends for a play in the park/beach after school
  • Good quality food and treats (avoid sugary drinks and treats — they deplete energy very fast!)
  • Prioritising sleep — at night and rest time in day when needed
  • Play, play, play — having fun is the fastest cup filler ever!
  • Laughter and lightness — be silly and laugh lots. Novelty works a treat!
  • Reading to kids
  • Soothing, calm down times and breathing more deeply
  • Family rituals — home-made pancakes/pikelets for afternoon tea/watching the full moon/family movie nights/bedtime rituals.
