Our Early Learning Program
As a staff we are really proud of the teaching/learning program we offer at our Early Learning Centre. Each of the class teams meet together regularly to discuss how they will set up their classrooms and the outdoor space to best cater for students emerging interests and skills. We work hard to involve the children in planning our learning spaces – with weekly community times with the classes where we ask the children for their ideas for our outdoor learning space. As staff we also make jottings of the things we notice students find really engaging and those teachable moments we can follow up on to build students capacity as learners. The program for each class is on display each week in the ELC foyer. We would love you to take a look at the kinds of things each of the classes have planned for their week as you are dropping off or picking up your child each day.
Each class also has a Learning Journal that you are welcome to look through. The Learning Journals are created at the end of the day with an educator working with a small group of students. These journals are a chance for students to reflect on their day and the things they have enjoyed doing or learning about at preschool that day. They may contain statements from the children recorded by an adult, drawings by the children or photos of things that have happened during the day. As much as possible we try to complete these with the students each day.
Each of our classes also spend time following the emerging interests and learning of the students in their class gathering times. Last week the Bilbies and Possums class voted to turn their class home corner into a castle. This week the students have all helped out making walls, treasure boxes and other props for the Castle. They have had a fabulous time dressing up as Princesses, Kings, Queens, soldiers and even castle thieves! I am looking forward to seeing all the gorgeous creative and imaginative play in this space!
