Resilience Project
I am certain that each of you would have discovered our new Community Project to build Resilience. This project aims on building student’s emotional literacy by having them check in with their emotions as they arrive at preschool each day.
Why Emotional Literacy?
Working on our emotional literacy gives us opportunities to develop our ability to understand and express different emotions. It also helps us to recognise our feelings and how to manage them. When we develop and improve our emotional literacy skills, it allows us to cope with different life situations such as managing conflict, making friends, coping in difficult situations and being resilient when dealing with change. Working on our emotional literacy is important for children and adults.
As you pass this space with your child each day it would be fabulous if you could take a moment to work through this check in process with them. Questions you can ask are to encourage children’s reflection are:
> How are you feeling in this moment?
> Why are you feeling this way?
> What things have happened that have led you to feel this way?
> Do you want to change the way you are feeling? and if so, what can/will you do to change your mood?
During the holidays you might want to explore some of these skills further with your family. This link will take you to some information and ideas you can use at home with your family to build resilience and well being – by focusing on family routines around practicing Gratitude.
